How to Overhaul Caged Exhaust Valve In An Auxiliary Engine



  • Slacken the holding nuts on the cylinder head, take out the distance piece and remove the valve. 



  • Keep the exhaust valve in a stand. 



  • Use the compression tool to compress the spring.


  • Once the spring is compressed, remove the valve cotters.


  • Remove the  valve rotator.


  • Remove the springs, spring seat and the valve spindle.


  • Separate the valve seat and the valve jacket.


  • Remove the cooling water o ring.


  • Check the clearance between valve spindle and guide.


  • If it is greater than the set limit, remove the valve guides and sealing ring.

Now assembly,

  • Renew the valve guides and sealing ring.
  • Renew the cooling water o ring.
  • Join the valve seat and jacket back.
  • Lap the valve spindle and the seat with grinding paste.


  • Once the desired surface finish is achieved assemble the valve spindle in the valve housing.


  • Assemble spring seat, springs and the valve rotator.
  • Use the compression tool to compress the spring.


  • Fix the cotters and remove the exhaust valve from the stand.
